Merit Scholarship winners have been announced by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. College-sponsored award recipients will receive between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.
Winners include:

Mukilteo Kiwanis awards scholarships
The Mukilteo Kiwanis Club awarded $500 scholarships to the following students from schools in the Mukilteo School District:
Aces: Christian M. Bravo Ramirez
Kamiak: Hope Drury, Sophie Milton and Taryn VanGerpen
Mariner: Keahi Cordeiro
Sno-Isle Tech Skills Center: Corbin Flickinger
The awards were for the students’ service to our community and their leading roles in school academics and activities. Another $500 check was given to Workforce Development Services for work in teaching job skills to disadvantaged youth.
Stanwood students excel in technology
The Stanwood High School chapter of the Technology Student Association won major honors at the organization’s national conference in June in Nashville, TN.
Seven Stanwood High students were among the 5,000 nationwide competing in more than 60 events. All seven Stanwood were named top 10 finalists.
They were:
Agriculture and biotechnical design: Matt Kline, Kevin Kline, and Jay Bonnifeld, sixth place
Architectural model: Gabe Herigstad and Tony Holtum, 10th place
Construction Systems: Gabe Herigstad and Nolan Heintz, seventh place
Engineering design: Kevin Kline, Kyle Kline, and Matt Kline, third place
Technology problem solving: Nick Bear and Jacob Crofoot, seventh place
Matt Kline was inducted into the National Technology Honor Society and Kevin Kline received the Gold Achievement Award.
Monroe High School names scholars
Monroe High School department scholar for June are Amy Ahonen, choral music; Alissa LeBlanc, drama; Michael Beck and Elizabeth Nickerson, art; Joselyn Cook, agriculture science; Kim Nelson, marketing; Terry Krug, technology education; Nick Albin and Raven Dean, PE; John Derose and Megan McKinney, world languages; Sean Higgins, science; and Richard Sines, English.

Rogelie Rael of Marysville received a $1,000 President’s Scholarship and a $2,000 Seattle Business Forum Scholarship from Western Washington University.

Kristyl Drew, a 2004 graduate of Henry M. Jackson High School, graduated magna cum laude from Chapman University in California with a public relations major and sociology minor.
Miller award
Cadet Tyler Miller, Mukilteo, received the Howe Military School Marx D. Merrel Greatest Academic Progress Award in Howe, Ind., and is on the Principal’s List for academics.
