Tuesday afternoon update

Tyrone Willingham just finished his press briefing, and that’s the last time we’ll have access to him or players until after Friday’s game. So there won’t be a ton of new news tomorrow or Thursday (don’t worry, you can still get your Huskies fix in the paper all week).
He gave a few injury updates, one of the biggest being some apparent improvement in cornerback Byron Davenport. Davenport went through all of the drills in Monday’s practice for the first tie since injuring his hamstring, and Willingham says there is now about a 60 percent chance he could play.
Either way, freshman Vonzell McDowell Jr. will still start, Willingham said, but some added depth would do wonders for a very thin Washington secondary.
Sophomore linebacker Donald Butler, who has been off an on throughout fall camp because of swelling in his surgically-repaired knee, is still expected to start. Willingham added that they are pleased with the work of backup Trenton Tuiasosopo, however, and that he would be comfortable starting the Mariner High grad should Butler’s knee be an issue.
We’re about to go watch the first 25 minutes of practice (that’s all the media is allowed to watch), so I’ll check back in if I see anything unusual or if anyone does some spectacular stretching.
