A guilty plea and other Tuesday notes

Cornerback Jordan Murchison pleaded guilty Tuesday to a charge of assault in the fourth degree, a gross misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail. According to a spokesman for the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s office, prosecutors will recommend 30 days in jail, 24 months of probation, no contact with the victim and restitution.
Murchison has been away from the team since the first week of August when he turned himself in for failing to appear at a court date. Murchison was originally charged with second-degree assault, a felony, for an incident that occurred on March 31. Murchison also faces a court date in Seattle Municipal Court on misdemeanor assault and harassment charges unrelated to his March 31 arrest.
Murchison will be sentenced on October 19.
His future with the team has not been decided.

Check out today’s USA Today coaches poll The Huskies managed one vote, and it’s worth noting that Tyrone Willingham has a vote, because when he was asked about the poll, he said only that “I’m not surprised.” So does that mean Willingham voted for his team? Or does he just feel they deserved the mention after a big win? To be honest, we’re never quite sure with Willingham, so I’m not going to speculate.
One of the more interesting things to come out of today’s conference call with Pac-10 coaches was news from Oregon State coach Mike Riley that receiver Sammie Stroughter is getting closer to playing. Stroughter was expected to be one of the conferences top receivers, but left the team last month. He returned later and has been practicing. Riley said he is still unsure if Stroughter will play this week, but that he will make the trip for Thursday’s game at Cincinnati.
