Talking defense

Wednesday is the media’s day for meeting with defensive players and coaches. The concern surrounding Boise State is the complexity of the offense. Defensive coordinator Kent Baer said that when coaches reviewed film of three Broncos games, they saw 35 different formations on first down alone. Baer said a typical opponent would show “maybe 10.”
That variety is a bigger concern than the trick plays for which the Broncos became so famous after their Fiesta Bowl win over Oklahoma.
“They probably do more than any team we’ve seen since I’ve been here,” said Baer.
The other concern with Boise State, of course, is Heisman Trophy candidate running back Ian Johnson.
Whatever Boise State brings to Husky Stadium Saturday, it’s a safe bet (not that this blog advocates gambling) that the Huskies defense will be challenged more than it was against Syracuse.
