Darrington school board measure passing

DARRINGTON — A measure to reorganize the way Darrington School Board members are elected was easily passing in early returns Tuesday night.

Backers of the measure said it would give more people a chance to participate on the school board.

Currently, the 515-student Darrington School District is divided into five districts. Voters in each district choose one member for the school board.

Proposition 1 would merge the five districts into three. The school board would then consist of one member from each district and two at-large members who can live anywhere in the school district.

Proponents including School Board President Tim Lovell said it can be difficult to find people to run for the board; the measure would give those people who want to run more opportunities.
