It’s Apple Cup week

A few notes as Washington prepares for the 100th Apple Cup.

Louis Rankin was named the Pac-10 offensive player of the week for his 224-yard game against Cal. He was also named Pac-10 co-player of the week two weeks ago after rushing for 255 yards against Stanford.

Not much new on Washington’s depth chart that came out today. The quarterback is listed as Jake Locker or Carl Bonnell. Locker said he has full range of motion back, but Tyrone Willingham said he was still not sure who would get the start.

Byron Davenport, who missed last weekend’s game with a thigh bruise, is listed as a starter at cornerback. Linebacker Donald Butler, who injured his knee against Oregon, is again not on the depth chart.

Also, 21 seniors are listed on this week’s release as players who will be making their final appearances at Husky Stadium. Unlike last year, it looks like there are no surprises this year. Last season, five players who had been listed as juniors were honored as seniors and not brought back for a fifth year, causing a bit of late-season controversy.

Finally, because it’s Apple Cup week, I thought it might be fun to take reader submissions for Apple Cup jokes.
