Commentary should be positive

It was a great game. Good job by both teams in a well-fought 100th anniversary Apple Cup. Regardless of who came out on top, each team deserves a lot of credit for their tremendous effort.
It is difficult for every player to play a perfect game. It is expected, but rarely if ever achieved. The secondary for the Huskies broke down with less than a minute to play and the Cougars’ receiver was wide open. Should we say the Huskies “Dogged it”? I don’t think so. Only a disrespectful, heartless, non-athlete would say such a thing to a fallen opponent.
To those spectators, or sports writers who use the saying “Couged it” or “Dogged it” in a negative way remember this: “Real athletes are humble in victory and gracious in defeat.”
