FYI: Goofy teen Baldo joins comics pages
Published 10:58 pm Thursday, November 29, 2007
Those who love Sunday’s color comics will notice an addition to our lineup this week.
The newcomer is Baldo, a creation of Hector Cantu, a Texas journalist, and Carlos Castellanos, a Florida illustrator. Their strip features a teenager with a penchant for daydreaming and the family members he must endure — and who must endure him.
Baldo replaces Condorito, a comic that is no longer available in its English-language format.
Stores offering flu shots today
If you need to get a flu shot, the Washington state Department of Health advises that some may be available today and Saturday at participating QFC, Safeway and Albertsons- Sav-On pharmacies. Shots cost $28 to $30.
Students help family in need
Fourth-graders at Mukilteo Elementary School recently learned about the plight of a single father who has been unemployed for the past year and is raising six children, all younger than 12. The students wanted to find a way to help make this family’s holiday a better one.
The students have been finding creative ways to collect contributions for the family, such as doing extra chores, giving from their piggy banks, collecting from parents and organizing a garage sale.
The 26 families in Mukilteo Elementary’s Room 110 will pool their goods and resources for a garage sale, where the proceeds will be given to the family.
Parent Tina Chun will host the fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at 12634 Double Eagle Drive, Mukilteo.
Bazaar proceeds go toward garden
The Josephine Auxiliary offers a Christmas bazaar from noon to 6 p.m. today at Josephine Sunset Home, 9901 272nd Place NW, Stanwood.
They’re raising money to build a therapy garden. The bazaar will include as many as 15 tables of items, as well as Josephine Sunset Home cookbooks.
Correction
It would have taken 20 years to extend light rail to south Snohomish County if voters had approved Proposition 1. The time required for the work was incorrect in a story on Page A1 Thursday.
