Huskies land two big recruits

Amidst all the bad news of a 4-8 season, the Huskies finally got some good news this week. Tight end Kavario Middleton and receiver Jermaine Kearse, both of Lakes High School in Lakewood, have verbally committed to play for the Huskies.

Middleton and Kearse were regarded as two of the top recruits in the state, and both had offers from a number of schools. Middleton also considered Arizona State, California, Miami, and Oregon, while Kearse had offers from Arizona State, Cal, Hawaii, Oregon, Oregon State and Washington State.

Ultimately, it came to staying close to home for Middleton.

“It’s close to home and I want to be by my family and support system,” said the 6-foot-6, 240-pound Middleton.

He also cited a desire to bring winning back to Washington.

“I want to help the program get back to winning,” said Middleton, who is also a standout defensive end, but plans to play tight end in college.
