A bit o’ football news

So I know it’s basketball season, and we’ll have plenty on that starting tomorrow, but it seems like college football is really “off” anymore.

News out of L.A. is that USC coach Pete Carroll is talking to the Atlanta Falcons about their vacant coaching job. Now before all you USC haters start doing a celebration dance, this is hardly the first time NFL team’s have shown interest in Carroll since he went back to the college game. But he actually leaves this time, it would be quite a blow to USC (and I’m sure the rest of the Pac-10 would feel so sorry for the Trojans.

Also, a little bit closer to home, Tyrone Willingham was named president of the American Football Coaches Association today. Willingham was vice president of the AFCA last year, and was elected president as expected.

Willingham is at the Association’s annual convention in Anaheim this week, and one order of business there will likely be talking to more candidates for the Huskies’ vacant coaching jobs.
