Edmonds-Woodway ups unbeaten record to 6-0

MUKILTEO — For five brief minutes, it looked like both teams that entered Thursday’s Wesco South showdown with perfect records — Kamiak and Edmonds-Woodway — would both leave with their perfect records intact.

Tied at three match wins apiece, the teams had to temporarily stop the decisive No. 3 doubles match due to inclement weather.

“We thought we might have to cancel the whole thing,” E-W coach Dan Crist said.

But the rains subsided long enough for Sara Fine and Sophie Roben to prevail 6-0, 7-6 (7-4) at No. 3 doubles to give the Warriors the 4-3 road victory and improve to a Wesco South-leading 6-0.

“It was a good match and it was fun to watch,” Crist added. “We’re happy to still be undefeated and eke one out.”

The Warriors dropped three of four singles matches before sweeping the doubles matches to clinch the victory.

Edmonds-Woodway’s Amanda Waldron defeated Michelle Lee 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 for the Warriors’ lone singles win.
