Everett historian Margaret Riddle to retire
Margaret Riddle, a longtime Everett historian and local history author, will retire this month after 31 years of service with the Northwest Room, a special collection of Pacific Northwest historical materials.
A daylong open house to honor Riddle is May 30 in the Northwest Room at Everett Public Library, 2702 Hoyt Ave.
Riddle’s contributions to the city’s history collection are extensive. She and David Dilgard, the Northwest Room’s other historian, have amassed a collection of more than 50,000 photographs, slides and negatives related to Everett and Snohomish County history.

County, city leaders take a trip to Finland
Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon, Council Chairman Dave Somers and Everett Mayor Ray Stephanson are in Finland this week getting an education that could benefit people in Snohomish County.
The annual study trip is organized by the Trade Development Alliance of Greater Seattle, and today the delegation is scheduled to visit with Finnish Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen.
The group is learning about Finnish transportation and energy systems, health care, climate change, early childhood education and tourism strategy, among other things.
The trip ends Saturday.
The county budgets for two people to attend trips such as these each year each — one person each from the council and executive offices. Reardon’s expenses are expected to be about $6,000; Somers’ expenses are expected to be about $6,900.
