TACOMA — Valerie Stahl hit a two-out grand slam in the second inning, Alexandra Hudson added two solo shots, and Cory Mattson pitched her second shutout in a row to lead the Everett fastpitch softball team to a berth in the 3A state semifinals.

The 8-0 win over Liberty on Friday night means Everett (17-4) plays Kennedy at 9 a.m. Saturday, with a trip to the state championship game on the line.

Hudson homered in the fifth and sixth innings, both over the fence in centerfield. Those came after Stahl had given the Seagulls a comfortable lead with her second-inning grand slam.

Earlier in the day, Mattson threw a one-hitter and had an RBI triple as Everett beat Southridge in a first-round tournament game.

Snohomish County’s three 4A teams fell out of the championship bracket during Friday play. Monroe lost to defending champion Shadle Park in the semifinals, while Marysville-Pilchuck and Jackson both lost their opening games.

Jackson dropped its first consolation game and is out of the tournament. Monroe and Marysville-Pilchuck had consolation games late Friday night and are still playing for third place.
