Curtis Shaw leaves team

The UW just put out a release a few minutes ago saying sophomore receiver Curtis Shaw is leaving the team for family reasons. According to a school spokesman, Curtis is leaving the team strictly for family reasons, and there are no legal issues, academic issues, etc. at play here. Tyrone Willingham has already met with the media today, so we won’t be able to ask him about this until tomorrow.

With five catches last season, Shaw had the second-most catches of any returning receivers. He came to the school as a tailback, but moved to receiver during the season.

Shaw could still return the team, but whether he will or when that might be is unclear.

Here’s the release put out by the school.

SEATTLE — Washington sophomore wide receiver Curtis Shaw has left the Husky football team for family reasons, head coach Tyrone Willingham announced today.

Shaw, from Stockton, Calif., played in all 13 games as a true freshman last season, serving as a tailback, wide receiver and kickoff returner for the Huskies.

“The opportunity will be here for him to return once his family issues have been resolved,” said Willingham. “For the time being, that needs to be his focus.”
