Sooners’ Caleb could play vs. Washington

NORMAN, Okla. — Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops is hoping receiver Brandon Caleb could be back on the field this week when the third-ranked Sooners play at Washington, but it could be longer before defensive end Frank Alexander returns.
Stoops said Monday night that it was a mild ankle sprain sustained in practice that sidelined Caleb on Saturday in the Sooners’ 52-26 win against Cincinnati. The backup receiver was wearing a walking boot on his left foot during the game.
Alexander was wearing a sling around his right arm after he was stabbed during a melee at a Norman nightclub, and Stoops said he’d be monitoring the freshman’s progress “week to week” to see how his tricep heals.
Caleb and Alexander both played reserve roles in the Sooners’ season opener against Chattanooga. Caleb caught two passes for 15 yards, and Alexander recorded his first career tackle.
