SHORELINE — The Shorecrest Scots gave the Kamiak Knights’ new head coach, Natalie Bowie, a tough challenge.
Thankfully for the Knights, Bowie’s team never gave up and wound up giving her a victorious debut Thursday night.
Kamiak bounced back from a 2-1 deficit defeating Shorecrest 3-2 at Shorecrest High School in the non-league season opener for both teams.
“It was great. They didn’t quit,” Bowie said about her first varsity win, “I knew it was going to be a tough match. Shorecrest has always been a good team.”
Kay Ahnee had 22 assists, teammate Bailey Jones added 15 kills and six blocks and Jessica Ramos had 18 digs to lead Kamiak (1-0 overall).
Kamiak won the first game 25-20, before dropping the next two, 25-23 and 25-16.
That’s when Bowie gathered her group together and told them to “fight and dig deep.”
The Knights bounced back with a 25-12 win in game four before finishing up with a 15-9 victory.
“It was a good test, a good match,” Bowie said.
Kamiak, 4A District 1 champions the past two seasons, came into the game ranked No. 3 in The Herald’s 2008 Wesco South poll. Shorecrest (0-1), which placed fourth in the Class 3A state tournament last fall, is ranked No. 2.
