Seahawks reportedly add Robinson, Colbert

Mike Holmgren summed up the Seattle Seahawks’ wide receiver situation best on Monday, when the Seattle Seahawks’ head coach said his team would stop at nothing to fix the problem.

“Desperate times,” he said, “call for desperate measures.”

Less than 24 hours later, the Seahawks are living by those words. According to various reports, the Seahawks have gone away from team philosophy twice in shoring up the position.

Troubled former Seahawk Koren Robinson and Denver Broncos wide receiver Keary Colbert have been added in separate deals today.

Robinson has, according to The Seattle Times, signed a one-year deal with the Seahawks, who typically don’t like to gamble on players with risky backgrounds. Fox Sports and The Associated Press have reported that the Seahawks added Colbert in exchange for a draft pick, which is something Seattle does not like to give up.

Robinson, 28, played with the Seahawks from 2001 through 2004, when he was released following a DUI arrest. Robinson was reprimanded by the Seahawks several times during his tenure in Seattle — mostly for being late to meetings — while the NFL has suspended him twice for violating the league’s policy on substance abuse.

Robinson spent part of last season with the Green Bay Packers but was not re-signed by the team.

Colbert, a former starter with the Carolina Panthers, has played in both of Denver’s game this season but has yet to catch a pass.

In each of Seattle’s first two games this season, a starting receiver has suffered a season-ending knee injury. The team is also without projected starters Deion Branch and Bobby Engram, who could be back after next weekend’s bye, and reserve Ben Obomanu. Backup quarterback Seneca Wallace, who was supposed to help out at the position, hurt his calf before Sunday’s game and is out three to four weeks.
