Seahawks cut Taylor

RENTON — Wide receiver Courtney Taylor, who started the first two games of the regular season, was released by the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday.

Taylor struggled as a starter and eventually got demoted before the Week 3 St. Louis game.

Taylor said after the demotion that he had not played up to expectations.

“Things happen, and I’m not one of the ones to complain and say, ‘Oh, I’m not getting enough touches,’” he said on Sept. 18. “If you get one or two, you’ve got to make things happen.

“I feel like I can play 10 times better, but that hasn’t happened yet. I’m going to keep working my butt off to show my potential so I can get there.”

Taylor’s roster spot was filled by Jordan Kent, who was a preseason star who eventually ended up on the practice squad. Kent had a great week at practice leading up to the New York Giants game, although his performance as a scout team receiver apparently didn’t do much for the first-team defense’s preparations.

Kent is a second-year player from Oregon.

Taylor was a sixth-round pick out of Auburn in 2007. He earned the starting job after receivers Deion Branch, Bobby Engram and Ben Obomanu went down with preseason injuries. In two regular-season games, Taylor caught just five passes.

Engram has returned from his injury, while newcomers Billy McMullen and Keary Colbert also performed well enough to push Taylor down on the depth chart.
