The Salvation Army of Everett recently provided 200 children with school supplies through the second annual Car Dealers Caring for Children program led by Pignataro Volkswagen, which in the past two years has donated more than $4,000 to the program.

Money also was received from people in the community who donated from $5 to $50 each to help fill backpacks with supplies.

The Salvation Army provides a range of community services, including housing and shelter programs, church services, a food bank and a disaster food services program, among others.

According to its Web site, the Salvation Army’s “doctrine follows the mainstream of Christian belief and its articles of faith emphasize God’s saving purposes. Its objects are ‘the advancement of the Christian religion … of education, the relief of poverty and other charitable objects beneficial to society or the community … as a whole.’ ”

Food bank: 9 to 11:30 a.m. Monday to Wednesday and 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday.
