The Gatorade Company on Tuesday named Kylin Munoz, a senior at Monroe High School, its 2008 Volleyball Player of the Year for the state of Washington.
Munoz is now eligible for the national player of the year award. The winner will be announced later this month.
A 6-foot-1 outside hitter, Munoz recorded 569 kills, 212 digs and finished with a .437 hitting percentage in leading the Bearcats (19-3) to the quarterfinals of the Class 4A state tournament.
“She’s one of the top five (players) that I’ve sever seen come out of Washington,” Kentwood coach Bill Callier said in a statement released by Gatorade.
The award is the latest in a string of honors for Munoz. Last month, she was named a first-team All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, and last week The Herald picked her as its player of the year for the second straight season.
Munoz has signed an NCAA Letter of Intent to play at BYU next year.
