Snow make-up days in discussion
The Mukilteo School District expects to make up two of the three school days missed because of snow on June 18 and 19, but it has yet to decide on the third day.
School leaders said they must discuss the issue with employees because, according to the labor contracts, changes to the work calendar must be negotiated with unions.
Well-drilling rules offer protections
The state Department of Ecology updated water-well construction and maintenance regulations, beginning Jan. 1, to provide more protections for water quality and public safety.
“A new section in the rule requires drillers to use drilling materials such as bentonite clay and polymers and other drilling fluid additives that have been certified for use in potable water wells,” said Bill Lum, Ecology’s state well construction coordinator.
“This reduces a threat of degrading the quality of our water resources due to the use of potentially polluting materials.”
The department will provide well drillers and well construction inspectors with training in the new regulations.
