Rah-rah riot: Downtown Everett is set to be overrun by cheerleaders next weekend.
As many as 50 high schools from throughout the state will compete in the 2009 State Cheerleading Championship, according to the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association. The event is scheduled for Jan. 24 at Comcast Arena, and will be preceded by the WIAA’s 4th Annual Salute to Spirit, a high school dance team event.
Together, the day’s activities may draw about 3,000 people — mostly families and students — to the downtown venue.
The Salute to Spirit is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., while the cheerleading championship is scheduled for 3 p.m., with an award ceremony at 8:30 p.m. Event times are tentative. A final schedule will be posted at www.wiaa.com this Saturday.
Tickets, which provide access to both events, are $9 for adults and $7 for students and seniors. They will be available the day of the event at the Comcast Arena box office, 2000 Hewitt Ave., Everett.
