Arlington
Road work scheduled for today
The city plans a temporary road closure for paving work today on E. First Street between N. Olympic and N. McLeod avenues.
The closure is from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The alley between First and Third streets will be limited to local access only.
In addition, one lane on West Avenue between Lebanon and Third streets is scheduled to be closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. today.

Everett
Whittier students to tour EvCC
Everett Community College has invited 100 students from Whittier Elementary School in Everett to spend a day on campus Friday for an “I’m Going to College” event.
The event, co-sponsored by the Northwest Education Loan Association, introduces children from diverse socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds to college preparation and financial aid programs that can help them attend college.
Students will start their day at 10 a.m. in EvCC’s Jackson Center with “Show Me the Money,” a game designed to illustrate why they should go to college.
After lunch, they will visit one of five classroom demonstrations.
They’ll explore working at a crime scene, learn about primates, explore a science biology lab, visit a drama class and experience writing and perform in a play, and learn tips on surviving math class.

Park board to discuss Eagle Ridge Park
The Lake Stevens Park Board is scheduled to discuss the long-range plan for Eagle Ridge Park at its meeting tonight.
The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Community-Senior Center, 1808 Main St.
The board also is scheduled to elect officers for 2009 and to discuss fees paid by developers to contribute to the creation of new parks.

Arts panel has an opening
The Lake Stevens Arts Commission is seeking to fill a vacancy.
The volunteer panel advises the City Council on matters related to history, culture and the arts.

Mountlake Terrace
Sonmore to serve as mayor pro tem
City Councilwoman Laura Sonmore was selected by her fellow council members to again serve as mayor pro tem in 2009.
The mayor pro tem presides over City Council meetings in the mayor’s absence. The mayor is also a council member under the council-manager form of government in the Mountlake Terrace.
Sonmore appointed to the City Council in 2000, is the council’s senior member. She was elected for the remainder of the term in 2001 and re-elected in 2003 and 2007.
Sonmore has served as vice president of the Association of Snohomish County Cities for the past four years. She also serves on Mountlake Terrace’s Finance Committee and as council liaison to the Arts Advisory Commission.

Mukilteo
Crab feed set for Kamiak fundraiser
The Kamiak Performing Arts Boosters group will host a crab feed from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln Ave., in Mukilteo.
It’s the group’s biggest fundraising event of the year.
The crab feed will include a full meal of chowder, salad, pasta, bread and crab for $35 per person.
Beverages will be available for purchase and there also will be a raffle with many prizes.
