LYNNWOOD – Police and fire investigators are trying to determine what caused a small explosion in Lynnwood today.

The blast was heard just after noon at an apartment in the 18100 block of 36th Avenue W, Lynnwood Fire spokeswoman Marybeth O’Leary said.

Damage from the blast was limited to the apartment where the explosion occurred, she said.

A man, 30, was home with a dog when the explosion occurred. Both escaped without injuries.

The blast started a small fire which the resident put out using a fire extinguisher.

Officials are trying to determine what caused the blast, O’Leary said. There was no apparent evidence of illegal activity.

“We really don’t know,” she said. “Explosions don’t usually happen.”

The blast and subsequent fire caused about $10,000 damage.

Anyone with information about the explosion, is asked to call Lynnwood Police at 425-670- 5635.
