Lake Stevens: Woman promoted at BCC
Rachel Solemsaas of Lake Stevens has been named vice president of administrative services at Bellevue Community College.
Solemsaas worked most recently at Edmonds Community College, where she served for four years as vice president for finance and operations.
Solemsaas holds a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Washington and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the De La Salle University in the Philippines.
She is currently a doctoral student in community college leadership at Washington State University.
Solemsaas replaces Dr. Laura Saunders, who recently retired.
Lakewood: Sports fundraiser for schools
The Lakewood Sports Boosters is hosting its annual fundraiser on March 14 at the Stillaguamish Senior Center, 18308 Smokey Point Blvd. in Arlington. Doors open at 5 p.m. The silent auction starts at 5:30 p.m. and dinner is scheduled for 6 p.m. with a live auction to follow.
Tickets are $25 and can be purchased by e-mailing lhsbooster@wavecable.com.
Proceeds from this event support college scholarships, athletic camps, and the purchase of equipment and other supplies to enhance athletics in the Lakewood School District.
The Booster Club is looking for volunteers and donations of auction items, refreshments and desserts. Donations are tax deductible.

Monroe: Movie time benefits foundation
The Monroe Public Schools Foundation and Galaxy Theatre are presenting the 1959 film “Some Like It Hot” as the February Classic Movie Selection. This film features Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon. It tells the story of two struggling musicians who witness the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre.
This movie is scheduled to be presented at 7 p.m. on Feb. 24, at Galaxy Theatre, 1 Galaxy Way in Monroe. Before the show, there will be a trivia contest with a chance to win theater passes.
Tickets are $7. A portion of the proceeds go to the Monroe Public Schools Foundation.

Mountlake Terrace: City buys hybrid car
The city of Mountlake Terrace recently received the first of six hybrid vehicles scheduled for purchase this year.
The Chevy Malibu hybrid sedan is now in service with the police department.
The city has established a goal of reducing petroleum-based fuel consumption by 2.5 percent per year from 2007 figures.
In addition to the purchase of hybrid and smaller vehicles, the city began using B-20 biodiesel fuel for heavy-duty trucks and instituted a no-idling policy.

Mukilteo: Tax help available at library
The AARP is providing tax-preparation help for elderly and lower-income people at the Mukilteo Library.
Assistance is available by appointment from 5 to 8:45 p.m. Thursdays through April 9 at the library, 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd.
Anyone interested may visit the Mukilteo Library information desk to schedule an appointment and pick up paperwork. Appointments are 45 minutes long.
