Arlington: Fire department gets grant

Arlington Fire Department is receiving $108,969 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The grant is part of a program to assist firefighters in the state.

The department will use the money to buy 14 self-contained breathing apparatus packs and 14 air tanks to go with the packs, city spokeswoman Kristin Banfield said.

Arlington: Learn to grow your groceries

Snohomish County Master Gardeners are bringing to Arlington a series of free classes called Grow Your Groceries.

Master gardener Bea Randall of Arlington says serious vegetable gardening is becoming a lost art. In these tough economic times, this is a class for everybody, she said.

The first class in the series — Everything You Need to Know to Start Up You Own Vegetable Garden — is set for 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the community room next to Arlington Boys &Girls Club, 18513 59th Ave. NE.

The second class is scheduled for April 11, same time, same place.

Stanwood: Legislators offer coffee talks

State Reps. Barbara Bailey and Norma Smith plan to meet informally with constituents from 4 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Stanwood Community and Senior Center, 7430 276th St. NW

The 10th District Republican lawmakers invite people from their legislative district to share their views, ask questions and enjoy a cup of coffee.

Stanwood: Spaghetti feed a fundraiser

Stanwood Community and Senior Center offers a community spaghetti feast from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday at the center, 7430 276th St. NW.

Cost is $7 for adults or $3 for kids 12 and under for spaghetti, salad, bread, dessert and a beverage.

Tickets will be available at the door. Proceeds benefit the center.
