Two pedestrians hurt crossing U.S. 2 in Monroe

MONROE — Two people were injured in separate pedestrian accidents Thursday when they ran across U.S. 2 against the traffic light in attempts to catch the bus.
Witnesses reported seeing a 17-year-old Kirkland girl running across the highway at Main Street while talking on a cell phone, Monroe police said.
The driver of a 2001 Pontiac Firebird traveling east on U.S. 2 around 11:45 a.m. struck the girl, who was taken to Valley General Hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening. The driver, a 42-year-old Gold Bar woman, was not injured.
Later that evening, witnesses saw a 16-year-old Seattle boy run across the highway at Roosevelt Road around 10:20 p.m.
He was hit by a 1995 Honda Accord traveling west on U.S. 2. The boy was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with a leg injury. The driver, a 54-year-old Bothell woman, was not injured.
