Looking forward and back

It’s hard to watch Purdue and UConn play and not wonder how the Huskies might be doing against, well, the Huskies. I’m still not convinced Washington would have been able to beat UConn, but it wouldn’t have been fun to see the two schools battle it out for the third time in the Sweet 16.

I had a chance to chat with Lorenzo Romar earlier this week to talk about the season now behind him and the one he’s now preparing for. The result was this column in today’s paper mostly looking at the Huskies hopes for next season. Paused on Romar’s laptop was film of the Purdue game.

“Purdue was such a solid team,” Romar said of his team’s season ending loss. “The difference in the game was that whenever we made a mistake, they were there to capitalize on it. That was the bottom line. If we missed a box out, they were there to get the rebound, if we bobbled the ball, they were there to not only get it but to turn it into a basket. If we missed an assignment, they buried a shot. They were just so solid and took advantage of every mistake we made. A lot of teams can’t do that.”
