A sampling of events planned today to commemorate Earth Day:
Climate change: Hugh Shipman, a coastal geologist with the state Department of Ecology, will speak. 7 p.m. at the Camano Community Center, 141 N. East Camano Drive, Camano Island.
“Green” Edmonds: Share your ideas on ways to solve climate problems. 6 p.m. City Hall, 121 Fifth Ave. N.
Paradise Valley Conservation Area: Opening ceremony for 793 acres of protected county land with trails. 4 p.m. near the park entrance at 23210 Paradise Lake Road near Maltby.
Plants, prizes and energy info: The Snohomish County PUD presents a day of Earth-friendly activities from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the PUD, 2320 California St., Everett.

Snohomish and Monroe Fire Explorers muster: Snohomish and Monroe Fire Explorers will compete Saturday in Skyway.
It’s a firefighting and emergency medical skills event.
Events for the muster include mass-casualty triage, turnout clothing and breathing apparatus donning and relay, search and rescue, ropes and hoisting, “make-and-break” and hydrant connection.
Participants are between the ages of 14 and 21 and youths typically have an interest in firefighting and emergency medical service careers. Many fire departments sponsor fire Explorer or cadet programs.
Car wash in Everett: A fundraising car wash is planned for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Les Schwab, 4831 Evergreen Way in Everett. Help send kids at The Church of God Prophecy to camp.
