MONROE — A Sultan-area teenager died overnight when his car apparently missed a turn on a rural road in Monroe and struck a tree.

A passerby spotted the 19-year-old’s car around 7 a.m. this morning on Woods Lake Road, Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said.

The 1993 Ford Probe was about 10 feet off the road, she said. The driver was dead at the scene.

Detectives believe the crash happened sometime overnight. The car was headed westbound and appeared to have missed a curve, striking the tree, Hover said.

Speed likely was a factor in the crash, Hover said.

The teenager’s identity has not been released. No one else was in the vehicle.
