ANACORTES — Tyler Kane batted 2-for-3 and smashed a two-run home run in the third inning to help Archbishop Murphy secure the 2A District 1 championship and a No. 1 seed in Saturday’s Region I tournament at Joe Martin Stadium in Bellingham.

Jake Robinett and Evan Howard had solo home runs for the Wildcats in the fifth inning of their 6-2 win over Burlington-Edison. Robinett, who batted 3-for-4, also had a double.

Murphy pitcher Casey Robinett pitched a complete game to improve his record to 6-0.

Cedarcrest 5, Lakewood 3: At Anacortes, Lakewood came back from a three-run deficit to tie the 2A District 1 playoff game in the top of the sixth inning, but Tommy Edwards had a two-run single in the bottom half of the inning to give Cedarcrest the winner-to-state, loser-out victory. In the top of the sixth inning, Lakewood’s Andrew Campbell had a one-out single. Campbell moved to third base on a Michael Leach hit-and-run single and scored on Cory Moore’s sacrifice fly. Lakewood pitcher Jordan Stauffer struck out 10 batters.

The Red Wolves secured the district’s No. 3 seed to 2A state and a trip to next Saturday’s Region I tournament at Joe Martin Stadium in Bellingham.
