Everett: School board sets budget talks
Everett School Board members invite parents, staff and local residents to talk to them about the district’s budget challenges from 5 to 7 p.m. June 1 at the Educational Service Center at 4730 Colby Ave.
The meeting is being organized so that participants can have one-on-one conversations with at least one board member. The Arlington School Board recently used the same format to get public input.
Board president Sue Cooper said she is eager for advice.
“Each summer we set a budget for the upcoming school year that relies upon millions of dollars of local and state tax support,” Cooper said. “This year, Everett, like all districts in the state and nation, like our families and local businesses, is facing a financial challenge unlike any in recent memory.”
Board members want to hear from people about their budget priorities for schools.
Everett is faced with cutting more than $7 million from the budget for 2009-10 school year.
Lake Stevens: Groups can run Lundeen booth
For the third straight year, the city of Lake Stevens invites nonprofit organizations to take turns running the concession stand at Lundeen Park for the summer.
The past two years, groups such as the Lions and Rotary clubs have operated the booth and used the proceeds to fund their charitable endeavors.
Registered 501(c)3 groups are eligible to use the stand for one week at a time to sell prepackaged, nonperishable food and drinks. A $100 damage deposit is required.
