Snohomish County is looking for volunteer advocates for residents of local nursing homes, assisted-living facilities and adult family homes.
The county’s Long Term Care Ombudsman Program will offer a four-day training session in Lynnwood on July 15, 16, 21 and 22. It is part of a statewide program that protects the rights of residents living in long-term-care facilities.
The ombudsmen would serve as educators, investigators and problem-solvers for more than 2,500 older adults and disabled people. Volunteers may apply from various age groups and educational levels.
Volunteers must be present each day. Once certified, they are asked to help four hours a week by visiting assigned long-term care facilities. Expenses such as mileage are reimbursable.
