Imagine Children’s Museum to welcome speedy drivers and fun

It was the horses’ turn to run in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness races in May. But Imagine Children’s Museum invites families to see a different kind of horsepower from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
A combination of 20 race cars and motocross bikes will sit outside the museum, 1502 Wall St., Everett, for the third annual “Racin’ Rally Day.”
Their driver’s seats will be ready for visitors to try out, courtesy of the Monroe Mini Stock Car Club. Wall Street will be closed from Hoyt to Colby avenues for the outdoor display.
Drivers will speak about their cars’ and bikes’ features and their experiences in competition. They’ll bring safety gear for visitors to see closely.
Ryan Capes, current World Record holder for distance jumping on a motorcycle, also will make an appearance.
As far as how the event relates to the museum’s goal of education, Imagine’s creative arts manager, Raniere, who goes by only one name, said, “Racing isn’t just about speed; racing involves engineering, math and problem solving, which is an example of the variety of programs and events offered at Imagine Children’s Museum.”
Rally Day fun is free after admission of $7 for ages 1 and over. For details, call 425-258-1006 or go to www.imaginecm.org.
