Everett: EvCC goes to four-day week
Everett Community College will be closed on Fridays through Sept. 4, with a few exceptions.
Summer hours will be from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays.
College programs open on Fridays include aviation, cosmetology, emergency medical technician training and welding. Also open will be some corporate and Continuing Education Center classes as well as University Center classes.
EvCC is switching to the four-day schedule during the summer to save money. The college will observe the July 4 holiday on Monday, July 6. EvCC’s five-day week will return Sept. 8.
Snohomish: Planning commissioner vacancy
The city of Snohomish needs applicants to fill a vacancy on the Planning Commission. Commissioners review land use and regional planning issues, and make recommendations to the City Council on code and policy matters related to land use and community planning. The term runs six years. Applications are due by 4 p.m. June 26 at City Hall, 116 Union Ave.
Monroe: Learn about local mining history
Local historians Daryl Jacobson and Phil Woodhouse plan to discuss the history of mining in the Sultan Basin at the Monroe Historical Society’s meeting 6:30 p.m., Thursday at the Tualco Grange, 18933 Tualco Road. Free strawberry shortcake will be served. The public is welcome.

Mukilteo: A creative conjuring magic show
Black belt magician and “Creative Conjuror” Jeff Evans will help the Mukilteo Library kick off its Summer Reading Program at 11 a.m. Saturday at the library. Evans’ wacky inventions, amazing toys and magical mayhem helps grab the attention of young readers. The library is at 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd., Mukilteo.

Edmonds: Rose House opens for tour
The historic Rose House at 555 Main St. in downtown Edmonds plans open house events this Thursday through Sunday for the Art Walk and the Edmonds Arts Festival. The works of 12 artists will be shown from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. On Saturday, the open house is scheduled to include an art and wellness fair. The Rose House was named to the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation’s list of Most Endangered Historic Properties in 2008.
