Kids collect stuffed toys

Eighth-graders Kaitlin Evers and Adel Barnes, students at Alderwood Middle School, collected more than 100 stuffed animals for the firefighters at Snohomish County Fire District 1 to give to children in emergency situations.

The girls launched the Kuddle for Kids drive to collect the stuffed animals as a community service project for the school’s Honor Society.

Fire District 1 is the largest provider of fire and emergency medical services in south Snohomish County, serving more than 160,000 residents in the neighborhoods of Silver Firs, Eastmont, Mariner, Lake Serene, Picnic Point, Martha Lake, Lake Stickney, Norma Beach, Hilltop, Hilton Lake, Pioneer Trails, and the cities of Mountlake Terrace and Brier.

Monroe children collect food for pets

A group of 3- to 5-year-old students from the Monroe Montessori schools recently spent time gathering animal food for dogs and cats for families in need at the Sky Valley Food Bank in Monroe.

The children each made either a doggie chew toy or a cat feather-chase toy and supplied organic dog bones.

Clients with pets were glad of the extra help and volunteers handed out supplies within two days.
