Warmer weather on the way

Get ready to get hot.

Blasts of warm air from Nevada and Arizona are likely headed to the Puget Sound region this week.

Temperatures are expected to hit the low- to mid-80s in Everett today — and jump to the upper-80s by the weekend, said Johnny Burg, a spokesman with the National Weather Service.

It could be hotter, Burg said.

Higher temperatures are expected south of Snohomish County, with folks in Seattle possibly seeing temperatures peak this weekend in the mid-90s.

People all over the Puget Sound region can expect cooler temperatures on Wednesday and Thursday as a front of marine air is expected to cool us off.

When the cool front subsides, warm air from the south should take over, Burg said.

News of the rising temperatures has prompted warnings from the Red Cross.

The very young and the elderly are especially vulnerable to the heat, so families and friends should check up on them regularly, said Kris Krischano, spokesman for the Red Cross.

“People with chronic health issues are also at greater risk and need to take special care to stay healthy in the heat,” he said.

Recommended safety tips include dressing for the heat with hats or umbrellas, wearing sunscreen, drinking beverages frequently and avoiding strenuous activity.
