EVERETT — The Lake Stevens girls soccer team may have a tough time catching Everett for the Wesco North title, but every game they play is important to securing the second seed going into the playoffs. Saturday afternoon they defeated a feisty Cascade team 3-1.
Cascade’s Sam Munger scored in the 10th minute (Aimee Bergman assist) to give the Bruins a lead that they would hold into the second half.
“Cascade played great in the first half and came out with a lot of passion,” Lake Stevens coach Andy Knutson said.
Cascade may have won the first half, but the second half belonged to the Vikings. Korie Barnes, a defender, scored in the 50th minute on a Sandra Osborn assist to tie the score at 1-1. It was Barnes first goal of the season.
“It was good to see her get to be a part of the offense,” Knutson said.
Fifteen minutes later, Osborn put the Vikings ahead for good scoring on a Kinslee Isaman assist. Isaman added a goal in the 71st minute (Breonna Countryman).
“I was really proud of them in the second half, they doubled their effort and our efforts paid off,” Knutson said.
Cascade remains in a fight for the final playoff spot in the Wesco North. The Bruins efforts certainly got Lake Stevens’ attention on Saturday.
“Cascade really scared us, they were ahead and they were really taking it to us,” Knutson said. “They are fighting for that last spot, a few more things go their way and they could get it, they aren’t out of it yet.”
