Crowd rallies against Referendum 71 in Lynnwood

About 250 people gathered Saturday in Lynnwood to rally against Referendum 71, which asks voters to approve or reject the “everything but marriage” domestic partnership law that state lawmakers passed earlier this year. The law, which would take effect if voters approve R-71, aims to make the state’s registered domestic partnerships legally indistinguishable from married couples. The law would cover same-sex couples as well as unmarried heterosexual couples if one partner is at least 62.

Saturday’s sidewalk rally was organized by members of an area church that is part of Protect Marriage Washington, the coalition of conservative social and religious groups that sponsored the referendum.
