Front Porch: Get help getting college financial aid

High school students and their families can learn more about how to seek federal financial aid in a free event today at Mariner High School, 200 120th St. SW, Everett.

The event, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., is called College Goal Sunday Washington, although it is taking place on a Saturday. It is one of a series of events happening across the state through February that help families complete the free application for student aid form required to get federal aid for higher education.

Middle school students interested in learning more about the state’s college-bound program can attend an 11:30 a.m. presentation today at Mariner High School.

National attention for hospital: Providence Regional Medical Center Everett is featured in BusinessWeek magazine.

BusinessWeek writer Cathy Arnst was directed to Providence by the Institute of Healthcare Improvement, said Cheri Russum, a Providence spokeswoman.

Arnst was advised to talk to Providence in Everett about lower cost, high-quality care.

Dash in for a dress: Bridal dresses are on sale at 7 this morning in Everett.

A dress dash is planned at Comcast Arena, 2000 Hewitt Ave. The line will form at the southeast doors of the arena, at the corner of Wall Street and Lombard Ave. There will be more than 500 gowns priced at less than $200.
