Darrington girls fall in first round of 2B state

SPOKANE — Teryn Pannette scored 14 points and Jadyn Foster added 11 points and 10 rebounds as Napavine beat Darrington 55-51 in the first round of the Class 2B girls state tournament on Wednesday.

The Tigers (18-3) face Reardan in a quarterfinal game today. The Loggers (13-7) were led by Renee Cousins’ 20 points.

Behind a 19-2 run, Napavine pulled away early, grabbing a 29-14 lead on Foster’s basket early in the second quarter. Darrington got back in the game with an 8-0 spurt midway through the third quarter to pull within 38-31, but never got closer than six points until Hailey Wales’ two foul shots closed the gap to four with one second to go.

Lacey Morris added 10 points for Napavine, which shot 43 percent from the floor on the way to a 38-22 halftime lead.

Hailey Wales scored 13 points and Randi Wales had 12 points and seven rebounds for Darrington.
