Silvertips associate head coach Jay Varady is, of course, heavily involved with USA Hockey, including winning a gold medal as part of the coaching staff at the World Junior Hockey Championships. The U.S.’s victory over Canada in the gold medal game was quite the ammunition against the Canadian contingent among the Tips, particularly head coach Craig Hartsburg, who twice guided Canada to gold at World Juniors.
Well, Hartsburg and the rest of Everett’s Canadians received their revenge when Canada bested the U.S. in the gold-medal game at the Olympics. Varady lost a bet with Hartsburg and his punishment? Having to wear Hockey Canada warm-ups during practice, as this photo documents.
