Hamlett scores 33 points as Meadowdale claims 5th place in Class 3A boys state tourney

TACOMA — Connor Hamlett had 33 points and 10 rebounds to lead Meadowdale past Franklin 66-55 to place fifth in the Class 3A boys basketball tournament on Saturday.
The 6-foot-7 Hamlett, headed to Oregon State on a football scholarship to play tight end, shot 14 of 17 from the field for Meadowdale (22-7) of Lynnwood.
Anrio Adams scored 16 and Leon Nelson 10 to lead Franklin (17-14) of Seattle, which placed eighth. The Quakers won the title last year.
Hamlett scored 18 points to give the Mavericks a 33-25 halftime lead. He shot 8 of 8 from the field in the first half, including 12 points in the first quarter. He averaged 24 points in four tournament games.
Sam Werner scored 13 for Meadowdale, which placed sixth last year.
