Murray, Simpson feature at U-18s

Everett’s Ryan Murray and Kent Simpson both took part in Canada’s 11-3 victory over host Belarus at the U-18 World Championships today. Murray was a plus-2 and Simpson stopped all five shots he saw during the game’s final 14:36 as Canada evened its record at 1-1.

Those minutes were Simpson’s first of the tournament. Murray has no points and is a plus-1 overall as he appears to be playing a shutdown role. Canada’s allowed six goals and Murray’s been on the ice for two of them. But one of those was an empty netter with five seconds remaining against Switzerland, and the other was while the Canadians were trying to kill a five-on-three against Belarus.

Canada’s next game is Friday against the U.S. You can follow the tournament’s progress online either through Hockey Canada or the IIHF.
