PREP WESCO NORTH TENNIS: Snohomish pair notch doubles title

ARLINGTON — The Snohomish duo of Julie Winston and Brielle Nicholas won the Wesco North girls tennis doubles championship Friday at Arlington H.S., prevailing 6-4, 6-4 over Lauren Rico and Clarrisa Abadesco of Oak Harbor.

The singles championship went to Stanwood’s Megan Lalone when her opponent was too ill to compete.

At Arlington H.S.

First-second—Megan Lalone (Stanwood) def. Sarah Tuemmler (Marysville-Pilchuck) by default; Third-fourth—Erin Neilon (Oak Harbor) def. Cady O’Dell (Oak Harbor) 6-1, 6-0; Fifth-sixth—Brooke Winslow (Monroe) def. Heather Smith (Stanwood) 6-2, 6-2.

Doubles

First-second—Julie Winston-Brielle Nicholas (Snohomish) def. Laurin Rico-Clarissa Abadesco (Oak Harbor) 6-4, 6-4; Third-fourth—Marina Messerli-Anna Fina (Stanwood) def. Aimee Verbarendse-Kallen Shaughnessy (Stanwood) 6-4, 2-6, 6-4; Fifth-sixth—Aimee Policarpio-Shannon Tomsheck (Cascade) def. Kendra Whitfield-GabrielleLindquist (Monroe) 6-2, 6-0.
