Arlington: Students provide baskets

Arlington city parks staff and Arlington High School horticulture students are teaming up to provide the flower baskets that will adorn city streets this summer

Under this arrangement the city saves money, the school gets cash for supplies and students get the satisfaction of seeing their baskets blooming all over town, city spokeswoman Kristin Banfield said.

Camano Island: Talk about Salish Sea life

Join award-winning film maker John Williams for a video tour and discussion of Salish Sea underwater wildernesses.

The presentation starts at 7 tonight at the Camano Multipurpose Center, 141 N. East Camano Drive.

Granite Falls: New trailhead for hikers

Hikers have a new trailhead for Perry Creek Trail 711, now located next to the Dickerman Trailhead along Mountain Loop Highway. The trailhead is 16 miles east of the Verlot Public Service Center and about a mile past the Perry Creek Road. The trailhead leads hikers about a mile toward Perry Creek Falls and Mount Forgotten Meadows with views of Big Four Mountain. Construction expanded the parking lot, added a new toilet and a bulletin board.

Marysville: Boys and Girls Club open house

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Snohomish County and the city of Marysville invite the public to an open house and check presentation at the club in Marysville on Thursday. The event is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Marysville branch, 1010 Beach Ave. Light refreshments will be served.

The club, which opened on a limited basis last year in a former school, was recently awarded a $487,000 grant to remodel the building.
