Bothell: Progress made on projects

University of Washington’s Bothell campus has selected Portland, Ore.-based Thomas Hacker and Associates as the architect for the design of its third campus building.

In other facilities news, the off-ramp to connect the campus to Highway 522 is expected to be completed ahead of schedule with a late September opening.

Everett: See art show

Showcasing an eclectic collection of fine arts, the Arts Council of Snohomish County’s juried art show continues this week, and is being exhibited Mondays through Saturdays at the Arts Council Gallery in the Monte Cristo building, 1507 Wall St. in Everett.

The exhibit will continue until Aug. 20. The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.

Everett: Ice cream social at Clark Park

The Bayside Neighborhood Association will host its annual Night Out Against Crime ice cream social from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Clark Park, 2400 Lombard Ave.

The event is free and open to anyone.

Island County: New planning director

Robert Pederson has been named Island County director of community development and planning.

Pederson previously served as San Juan County’s deputy planning director and most recently as community planning administrator for Manatee County, Fla. He has 25 years of public service, and was chosen from a nationwide pool of 40 applicants, Island County Commissioner John Dean said.

Pederson earned an urban and regional planning degree from Eastern Washington University and his master’s degree in regional planning from the University of North Carolina.

Mill Creek: Openings on library board

Mill Creek is trying to fill two vacancies on its library board of trustees.

The terms expire Aug. 31, 2012. The board meets at 5 p.m. the first Monday every other month — February, April, June, August, October and December.

Mountlake Terrace: Enter art contest

The Mountlake Terrace Arts Commission is seeking paintings, prints, drawings, miniatures, calligraphy, photographs and sculptures for its 31st annual art show.

Over $3,000 in prize money is available. Arts of the Terrace is held Sept. 26 through Oct. 3. The deadline for entries is Aug. 30. To enter or to view details online, go to www.cityofmlt.com and click on “Arts of the Terrace Prospectus” under “most requested services.”

Terrace: Artist Roger L. Jones at library

An exhibit of painter Roger L. Jones’ work is on display at the Mountlake Terrace library through Aug. 31.

The exhibit features paintings of the new off-leash park for dogs in Mountlake Terrace.

Jones’ work is included in many corporate collections. He has been a Mountlake Terrace resident for 30 years.

The library, at 23300 58th Ave. W., is open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m Mondays through Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fridays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.
