Fire engulfs home east of Index

INDEX — Firefighters knocked down a fire that scorched a house early Tuesday.

Crews were called about 1:25 a.m. to a home along U.S. 2 east of Index, just west of the border with King County, Snohomish County Fire District 28 firefighter Ryan Finney said.

Firefighters found the house engulfed in flames and already collapsing, he said.

Nobody was home at the time. There were no injuries.

Flames also crept up to a nearby structure on the property, charring the outside walls, but crews were able to save the interior, Finney said.

Fire crews from Gold Bar and Skykomish also responded.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
