Northwest 1A/2B Team Capsule
Darrington Loggers
Last Season: 2-4 league, 5-5 overall
Outlook: The Loggers are in a transition year with several positions to fill on both sides of the football. Last year, the Loggers won just two league games, which new head coach Doug Lenker hopes to improve on this season, but that will be tough because the team only returns three starters on each side of the ball. The new look Loggers will have to grow together quickly to have a chance at the 2B state playoffs.

Northwest 1B Team Capsule
Highland Christian Knights
Last Season: 2-4 league, 2-7 overall
Outlook: The Knights only have 10 players on the roster, which is enough to field a team in the eight-man “B” league, but doesn’t give them much depth. Head coach Pete Miller hopes to give these guys an opportunity to be successful and instill in the team that they are winners despite what the scoreboard might say on any given night. Realistically, Miller said four league wins would be a great season, but he hopes for more. Expect the Knights to try and keep the ball in the hands of junior running back Nelson Knutson especially early on in the season. Miller said Knutson will also be playing quarterback this season because of the team’s lack of players. The success of the Knights will depend heavily on Knutson and his offensive line.
Returning Starters: Offense 3, Defense 3
Impact Players: Sr. DE/LB/G Calvin Wold, 6’2” 190 lbs.; Jr. RB/QB/DE Nelson Knutson, 6’1” 165 lbs.; Jr. DL/C Clayton Binder, 5’9” 245 lbs.
Fresh Faces: Fr. OL/DL/LB Josh Montanaro, 6’2” 200 lbs.; Fr. WR/DB Luke Gould, 5’8” 125 lbs.
Schedule: Sept. 4 at Lummi JV (noon); Sept. 10 vs. Quilcene; Sept. 17 vs. Muckleshoot; Sept. 25 at Evergreen (1 p.m.); Oct. 2 at Crescent (1 p.m.); Oct. 8 at Clallam Bay; Oct. 15 vs. Neah Bay; Oct. 22 vs. Lummi; Nov. 6 at Lopez Island (2 p.m.)
Coaches Quote: “I see a lot of spirit in these guys that wasn’t there last year and the leadership is noticeably different. I see these guys as young, but their attitudes are very positive and they are very teachable guys, so I am very encouraged by that,” – Pete Miller 2nd year as Highland Christian head coach.
