EVERETT — Cascade’s LaQuondis Bruce had a nifty 74-yard run to pull the Bruins within a point, but the Lake Stevens football team answered with Swords.

Lake Stevens quarterback Jake Nelson found Colter Swords on a 16-yard scoring pass to cap a 13-play, 85-yard drive that took just over five minutes late in the fourth quarter to seal a 21-13 non-conference victory for the Vikings on Friday at Everett Memorial Stadium.

Lake Stevens running back Shae Giddins went untouched for an 18-yard score in the first quarter for a 7-0 Vikings lead.

Cascade answered, getting excellent field position on the Lake Stevens 14-yard-line after a bad snap on a punt attempt. Cascade ran four consecutive plays, with Kyle Councilman scoring from 1 yard out to tie the game 7-7 in the second quarter.

Late in the second quarter, with Lake Stevens facing fourth-and-14, Brady Pahukoa reeled in a 26-yard reception from Nelson in the end zone to give the Vikings a 14-7 lead with 40 seconds remaining in the first half. That score stood through halftime.

Bruce then ripped off his big run, but Cascade was unable to convert on the PAT, and trailed 14-13, with Swords scoring late in the fourth for the Vikings win.
